Alexander McCall Smith:
Honorary Club President
“I am delighted to become Honorary President of the Edinburgh Writers’ Club. By its very nature, writing is a solitary activity - to be able to share one’s work with others is so important for writers. The Edinburgh Writers’ Club not only provides a forum for that, but helps to underline this city’s role as a UNESCO City of Literature.”
— Alexander McCall Smith
Welcome to Edinburgh Writers' Club! We are a community of writers in the Edinburgh area and beyond, with an annual programme of competitions, workshops and expert speakers. Our 2024-2025 program starts on Monday 16th September.
The Club meets in the Quaker Meeting House in the city centre for in-person meetings, with online meetings held via Zoom.
Membership is excellent value and offers the following benefits:
Nineteen meetings per year, with a varied programme of speakers covering all genres of writing.
Membership of and access to the Scottish Association of Writers (SAW) conferences and competitions.
Entry into EWC club competitions. Competitions are judged by established writers who provide feedback on entries.
Opportunity to meet fellow writers and share your work, your challenges and your successes.
Social events.
Regular updates about competitions, publishing opportunities and events.
New members describe the club as 'pragmatic, helpful, friendly, involving, cheerful, wide-ranging, for beginners as well as published writers, informative, non-threatening.'
