Only members are eligible to enter our competitions.
There are currently no fees to enter any of our competitions.
All submissions are to be electronic. Only one entry is allowed per person.
If you have attended a few meetings before the first competition and wish to enter it, you may become a member in order to enter.
If you would like to enter our competitions, the process is as follows:
1) Create a Word doc or pdf of your document (please do not put your real name anywhere on this document, only a pseudonym) with the title in the header of every page (accessed by double-clicking the top of a document in Word)
2) If you cannot create a Word document or a pdf, please paste your text into the body of an email and the Competition Secretary will create a Word document for you
3) Send this email to Competition Secretary - Charlotte Bray at ewccompetitions@gmail.com. The subject of the email should follow this format: Subject: Edinburgh Writers Club Submission – ‘Name of Competition’ by 'Pseudonym
4) Please also attach a Word doc or pdf which has your real name, your pseudonym, and the title of your document.
5) These should arrive by midnight on the date of the competition entry.
6) Winners and feedback will be given on the meeting date specified in the programme.

Our first competition of the club year is for a short story that can be classified as HUMOUROUS WRITING. Details as follows:
Word Limit: 2000 words
Closing Date: This competition has now closed. Results will be announced at our meeting on 11th November at the Quaker Meeting House
One entry per author - and entries from club members only please
Our judge for this competition will be Ingrid Jendrzejewski, who led our workshop on 30th September

One entry per author - and entries from club members only please
Our judge for this competition will be Anne Hamilton, who will lead our workshop on 28th October.

Our third competition of the year will be judged by Lesley Kelly, who spoke to us in March 2025 on the area of GRITTY DYSTOPIAN FICTION. Details as follows:
Word Limit: 2000 words
Closing Date: 11:59pm on Tuesday 1st April 2025
One entry per author - and entries from club members only please
Entries should be within the genre of ‘gritty, dystopian fiction’, and should fit into either the theme of ‘Extravagance’ or ‘Indifference’.
